One way I’m continuing my education on how I can support the Black community is by seeking out more Black-owned businesses. This is something I really want to give more thought to when I’m making purchases because as consumers, we have the power to create change with where we spend our dollars. But also, it’s important to understand that Black business owners have historically been at much more of a disadvantage when it comes to starting/running a business.
According to this study, white-owned businesses have easier access to capital to get their businesses off the ground. And in terms of how this pandemic has added to this racial disparity, 21% of black-owned businesses said they don’t think they’ll survive it compared to only 5% of white-owned businesses feeling this way. The NAACP also reported Black-owned businesses are unable to withstand this loss in income because “58% of Black households nationwide do not have enough income to cover three months of expenses, in contrast to 29% of white households.”
These are just some of the facts that support the WHY behind all the changes I’ve been working on making in the last month and why, we as a country, have to do so much better! I hope that by sharing some of these stats, we can realize just how much power we truly have when we can come together and support more Black-owned businesses. Sharing some of my favorites below 🙂
Home x Be – My latest obsession when it comes to all things home decor. I just picked up these vases and tray for our entertainment stand– love them! They have everything for your home and it’s all so stunning.
Jade Swim – Hellooo summer! They have tons of different styles and colors. I bought this top and might have to go back for this one piece (clearly loving the one-shoulder vibe). Definitely check them out if you need a high-quality swimsuit in your life or follow on IG to add some pretty to your Insta feed.
Coco Luv Cookies – This bakery is out of LA and whips up ALL the delicious vegan, gluten-free, soy-free and refined-sugar-free cookies and baked goods! This is where I bought those gluten-free cinnamon rolls a few weeks back…seriously unreal. Tastes just like the real thing. They ship nationwide so if you need a cake (I mean, LOOK at this cake!) or any kind of pastry!
Briogeo – I’ve known about Briogeo for a while because of its clean and conscious approach to haircare, but just this month was my first time purchasing! It’s available at Nordstrom, Revolve and Sephora so next time you’re shopping for your usual hair products, check them out!
The Koop – OK, if you’re a candle lover you have to check out The Koop. Every candle is made with intention and is meant to feel ultra-luxurious. Plus I feel like their candles can double as chic home decor because the vessels are beautiful.
Beneath Your Mask – First, the branding and packaging of this skincare line are STUNNING! Big fan. I was also reading more about their mission and love that they design all of their products to reverse the effects of environmental hazards and health challenges. Very excited to try a few things out!
KNC Beauty – This brand has been all over my IG, I swear! Seems like everyone has tried their eye masks, which look so good. Also really loving the sound of the Supa Scrub Lip set!
Oma the Label – I tried to include a little bit of everything from beauty to food to jewelry and Oma the Label definitely checks the jewelry box. If you like simple, chic jewelry they have so many great earrings and necklaces. Also, don’t forget to check out their minimal-style bodysuits (they’re currently sold out but you can pre-order!).
Healthy On You Spices – A follower recently shared this range of 100% organic spices with me! They have so many delicious and unique blends of exotic spices, I have no idea which one will be my fave. I can’t wait to try!
Feel free to share more below! xx
