With it being my first time visiting New York, I felt extremely spoiled right off the bat with my stay at Dream Downtown. My boyfriend and I arrived to the hotel about an hour before check-in and they were more than accommodating by holding our bags while we ventured through the hotel, seeing the gym located on the third floor, the pool, the lobby and the café visible from the front entrance.
Finding out we were upgraded to the Silver King room when we were checking was another added bonus. When it was finally time to move our bags up to our room, we were blown away with the room. The room included a balcony overlooking the pool down below and good size for NY, too. It was beautiful. I loved how they incorporated portholes into everything—the windows, the ceiling of the lobby (which was actually the glass floor of the pool), even the button to flush the toilet, etc.
It also didn’t hurt to receive a welcoming introduction that was displayed on the TV as we walked in our Silver King room—“Ms. Rachael Devaux, we welcome you to Dream Downtown”—there’s few things more personal than that. In addition to the intro, fun music in the room greeted us each time we entered the room and was good background music while we explored our home for the next two days. Everything in the hotel was clean, sleek, and the cleaning service even came through two different times in one day. I was very impressed.
Unfortunately, we didn’t have a chance to use the pool since we chose to explore the city (and because the Dr. Oz show I guest on took up all of my morning our last day). The gym was small, but included everything you needed for a workout away from home—treadmill, cables, a few machines and dumbbells. Oh, and the perfect view of the pool!
We made reservations and ate at Bodega Negra (the restaurant located in the hotel) our first night. It was honestly some of the best Mexican fare I’ve had! If you go, you HAVE to try the grilled corn with chipotle aioli and cotija cheese in addition to the steak fajitas with the best corn tortillas. Service was great and although it was extremely dim-lit, the atmosphere was romantic and laid back.
I happened to pick up a cold while on vacation. Yes, BUMMER. So it was awesome that the café in the hotel offered green juices and healthy food to accommodate me. We made our way up to PhD, the rooftop bar one night as soon as it opened and the views were unbelievable. Great ambiance too.
Chelsea Market was about a two-minute walk from Dream and housed dozens of shops and restaurants. It’s an ideal place to hit if you’re unsure of what you’re wanting to eat. It somewhat reminded me of a fancier Pike Place market in Seattle, Washington.
Dream Downtown is hip and trendy. The feel is young and exclusive. The location, which is pretty much in the heart of the Meat Packing District, was perfect for us! We wanted somewhere close to shops, eats, and other spectacles and Dream Downtown covered it all. I’m truly disappointed we weren’t able to stay there for our entire vacation, but I know we will be back in the near future! I totally recommend Dream to anyone visiting New York!!
