If there’s one smoothie that has it ALL– flavor, nutrition, & immune boosting benefits, I’d have to choose my Renew smoothie I created specifically for our Toast Society Menu. It’s both refreshing and light, and makes a great option to switch up from your everyday routine or whenever your body needs a quick blast of anti-inflammatory properties 😉
This yummy smoothie is packed with vitamins & minerals, healthy fats, and TBH I make it whenever I feel sicky symptoms coming on!! Many people may run to fresh pressed juices for nutrients, and don’t get me wrong, I love a good green juice every now and then, but typical fruit/veggie juices lack the fiber you’d be getting from eating whole fruits and vegetables (the skins contain the majority of the fiber & is extracted when making pressed juice). This is where I’d opt for smoothies. The entire fruit is blended together with the other ingredients, creating a more high-fiber beverage, which helps stabilize blood sugars & slow digestion, making you full for a longer period of time.
Ginger & turmeric are included for their anti-inflammatory properties, orange for vitamin C & potassium, strawberries for antioxidants, coconut water for electrolytes, hemp seeds for omega-3s, fiber & plant protein, and avocado for additional healthy fats & texture, and spinach/power greens for vitamins A, C, K, folate, and minerals like iron, calcium, magnesium and potassium (we’re not looking for 2-3 leaves of spinach… throw 2 big handfuls of greens in there!! Pro-tip: freeze a bag of organic greens ahead of time and you won’t be able to taste + it helps chill the smoothie). Black pepper is added because it increases the bioavailability of curcumin (compound found in turmeric) and therefore helps absorption! Trust me, you can’t taste 🙂

- 1 cup coconut water
- 1 cup frozen organic strawberries
- 1/4 fresh orange, peeled
- 1/2-1 cup ice cubes
- 1 big handful greens (spinach, power greens) I love them frozen best!!
- 1 small chunk fresh or frozen ginger, peeled
- 1/3 frozen avocado (healthy fats, fiber & texture)
- 1/4 tsp turmeric spice
- few shakes ground pepper (increases absorption of turmeric!)
- 2 tbsp hemp seeds
- option: for vanilla protein powder
Blend all ingredients together! Enjoy 🙂
