Fitness apps have come a long way in the past several years. Now, more than ever, they are completely customizable, accessible and ready to go just about anywhere with you. At least that’s what my experience was with this new women’s health and fitness app created by Jillian Michaels called My Fitness. I’ve been a big fan of Jillian for years (I’d like to think we’re on a first name basis). She’s such a badass and is one of the most motivating human beings in the industry. In fact, I recently had the opportunity to take a workout from her in person while she was touring with the Tone It Up girls in Seattle in Sept. 2017.
After being able to test-drive the app for the past month or so, I would easily recommend it to anyone looking to stay active, get motivated, and learning to make healthier decisions in the kitchen. I was truly impressed with how easy it was use.
The thing I like most about the My Fitness app is that it’s customizable down to every last detail. After you sign up, you’re able to pick your difficulty level, swap out workouts, pick your music playlist, set up a heart rate monitor (optional, of course), select available equipment, receive grocery lists for the entire week, and have access to what seems like hundreds of recipes and workouts.
Unlike other apps or workout plans that are pre-programmed, this app has over 550+ exercises designed and shot in HD for beginner, intermediate and advanced fitness type, with available fitness equipment that includes dumbbells, flat bench, stability ball, medicine ball and treadmill.
I even put it to work while I was out of town in a hotel that didn’t offer a fitness center. I swapped my resistance bands in place of several of the dumbbell exercises and broke a sweat in no time!
The workout generator creates targeted body part workouts in a variety of time increments: 10, 20, 30 or 45 minutes. It also includes a range of 7 minute abs, 7 minute cardio, and 7 minute total body workouts.
The exercises are all commentated by Jillian, herself and are able to be viewed prior to performing the exercise– this makes it easier to follow along and adjust your form as you go.
For someone who’s pretty experienced in the gym as well as being a personal trainer, I too feel unmotivated at times and need to pull inspiration from elsewhere in order to form my workouts. I think this is where the My Fitness by Jillian Michaels app comes in handy. It’s so simple to navigate and I love being able to choose the workouts I want to do at the time. Come to find out, these workouts were definitely challenging for me on the advanced level.
But, if you’re new to working out, there are several ways to modify exercises or you can simply swap to the next.
The Meal Plan
To break down the meal plan side of the app, you first choose which diet you prefer to follow (I chose Paleo, but I truly don’t follow any particular ‘diet’) and from there you get recipes + tips + grocery lists that follow those guidelines. Although I didn’t completely utilize the meal plan portion of the app since I’m pretty savvy in the kitchen as it is, I was blown away by the level of quality and nutritious recipes that were offered.
Like, LOOK at these sweet potato nachos^^. I need to make asap!
My Fitness by Jillian Michaels is basically like having a personal trainer (Jillian) in your pocket cheering you on and motivating you to finish your workouts & eat healthy on the daily. It’s equipped with what you need to stay fit, spice up your current humdrum routine and offer tons of healthy recipes. I definitely recommend!
