One of the things I get asked most is how I keep up my fitness routine when I travel. And the answer is actually really simple! I love bringing my routine from home wherever I go. It’s one of the things I like to keep constant in my life whenever I’m overwhelmingly busy, traveling, can’t keep up, etc. It’s my one hour a day for ME – time I can shut everything else out and just do what I love most and what makes me happy. Plus, it’s a good way to beat jet lag / wake me up in the mornings. So what you see me doing at home in my regular routine is what I do whenever I’m traveling as well!
Now, I totally get you won’t always have the motivation (YES, this happens to me too!), but a good habit will always be there. If you put in the work to make exercise a priority in your day to day life, you’ll begin to crave the feeling. So when you travel or are out of your regular routine, it won’t feel like SUCH a hassle to get your body moving.
I think it’s important to remember that you can still have a great, relaxing trip and still get in some good workouts. It’s honestly what helps me feel even MORE relaxed! This latest trip to Thailand was one of the most relaxing trips I’ve been on in a while, but of course that didn’t stop me from getting a good sweat sesh in each morning with that stunning view. 😉
If you need some mental motivation to exercise before you head out on your next trip, I have a few ideas for you! First, make a shortlist of two goals you’d like to stick to while you’re away! These don’t have to be anything crazy and could be as easy as scheduling in a long walk each day/every other day, committing to three days of gym workouts, finding a local pilates class to fit in a new workout, etc.
Second, make the goals you set attainable! Don’t set yourself up for failure before you even head out on your trip, ya know? For example, maybe don’t make your goal to PR (set a personal record) at the hotel gym. Keep things simple, while also still challenging yourself.
Also, something I always say (and remind myself of) – you NEVER regret a good workout, promise! Remember how good you always feel after you sweat and bring that with you on vaca!
