If you’re in need of a quick and easy dessert to bring with you to any holiday gathering (holiday not required, but… ‘tis the season!), these Peanut Butter Balls are it. They’re the best, most delicious, no-bake, crowd-pleasing treat.
Made with just a few simple gluten-free ingredients, this is my better-for-you take on the classic holiday recipe that otherwise tends to be packed with powdered sugar.
If you weren’t already aware, I take my role of sharing simpler and healthier versions of all the classics very seriously. So, I got you with these cutie little PB Balls!
THE BEST PEANUT BUTTER BALLS
You’re likely scoping out this recipe because, if you’re like me, any chocolate-peanut butter combo is your weakness. And these chocolate-drizzled Peanut Butter Balls are basically like Reese’s cups in ball form, so I know you’ll love them.
Much like my Copycat Reese’s Peanut Butter Eggs (a go-to Easter treat), they require no baking, minimal ingredients, and are SO easy to make.
All you have to do is whisk together creamy peanut butter (obviously!), maple syrup (an ideal natural sweetener), melted coconut oil (healthy fats), vanilla extract, and nutrient & fiber-packed almond flour. Plus, option to add collagen for a protein boost, including added benefits for your gut, skin, hair, nails and joints.
It’s seriously the yummiest filling, made even better with an insanely decadent chocolate drizzle that’s made simply by melting dark chocolate and coconut oil, with a sprinkle of flakey sea salt on top. A true match made in heaven!
PEANUT BUTTER BALL OBSESSION
I will warn you though: you will become obsessed with these delish Peanut Butter Balls. They’re just too easy and too good! And I certainly don’t blame you.
Not to mention, aside from making an ideal party/dessert contribution, they also make for a nice little sweet treat holiday gift. Package them up in cute, festive, treat bags or glass Tupperware and bring them to your friends, fam, or hostess with the mostest.
I hope you love these as much as I do, and I hope you all have the most wonderful holiday season! xx
INGREDIENTS YOU’LL NEED:
Peanut Butter Balls:
- Creamy peanut butter
- Maple syrup
- Melted coconut oil
- Vanilla extract
- Collagen (optional)
- Almond flour (or substitute coconut flour)
Chocolate Drizzle:
- Coconut oil
- Dark chocolate bar
- Flakey sea salt
HOW TO MAKE MY PEANUT BUTTER BALLS
Peanut Butter Balls:
Whisk together peanut butter, maple syrup, coconut oil and vanilla in a medium-sized bowl.
Pour in collagen + almond flour, and stir thoroughly.
Form dough into smaller, 1-inch-thick balls and lay flat on parchment paper. Once all dough has been shaped (should make 10-12 balls), place in freezer for 10 minutes to chill/harden.
Chocolate Drizzle, To Serve and Store:
Meanwhile, melt chocolate + coconut oil, and stir. (This can be done either in a microwave-safe bowl in 30-second increments in the microwave, or on the stovetop.)
Remove balls from freezer and drizzle chocolate over the top with a spoon. Immediately sprinkle with sea salt and place back in freezer, in an airtight container, for up to about 3 weeks.
Best enjoyed when thawed for 2-3 minutes. Hope you love ’em!
RECIPE SUBSTITUTIONS & QUESTIONS
Feel free to customize these Peanut Butter Balls however you like. Just because they’re called Peanut Butter Balls definitely doesn’t mean you have to use peanut butter. Any nut or seed butter should work.
Collagen is totally optional, but recommended for a protein boost, and instead of almond flour, you can substitute 5-6 tablespoons coconut flour.
Option to use whichever chocolate bar (or could even use morsels since you’re melting it anyways) you’d like – dark chocolate, milk chocolate, dairy-free, etc. You could even try honey instead of maple syrup, though I haven’t tested that yet, I think that would work.
What I Used To Make This Recipe
DO YOU HAVE TO ADD OIL WHEN MELTING CHOCOLATE?
While it’s not entirely necessary, I prefer to and typically recommend adding coconut oil to chocolate whether melting over the stove or microwaving. The coconut oil gives the chocolate a nice, glossy shine and helps it to melt more smoothly, which makes it a perfect consistency for dipping, drizzling & coating.
ARE PEANUT BUTTER BALLS HEALTHY?
When it comes to homemade desserts and sweet treats, I will always use better-for-you ingredients. In the case of these Peanut Butter Balls, they’re a better option than a store-bought candy or bakery option, since the ingredients include peanut butter with no fillers or added sugars, protein-forward collagen and a natural sweetener like maple syrup, for example.
However, while it may be the healthier choice, any sweet is something you’ll want to enjoy but not over-indulge in.
