I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: there’s no wrong way to prepare potatoes. Baked, roasted, mashed, or in soups – it’s a veggie that never disappoints.

But these Greek Feta Fries might be my number one.

Bridger and I did our honeymoon in Greece (click here for our full itinerary), and I’ve always loved Mediterranean food, so this insanely easy and delish recipe will always have a special place in my foodie heart.

A NOSTALGIC RE-CREATION

You might already know that I used to work at a Greek restaurant during the summers in high school. Honestly, I had the best time working there! I think mostly because we would make these fries all the time.

While we made those in the deep frier back in the day, I’m happy to report that my homemade version of Greek Feta Fries is made with all the better-for-you ingredients. Using avocado oil to pan-fry these crispy, golden beauties is key to making this much less inflammatory alternative.

Potatoes are filled with nutrients like vitamin C, B6 and potassium, and they contain dietary fiber and resistant starch, which can be helpful for blood sugar control. Plus, they are a great source of energy-boosting carbohydrates, and are naturally gluten-free (ideal for all of us GF girlies!). What’s not to love about this deliciously versatile vegetable?

MEDITERRANEAN SPIN ON A CLASSIC SIDE

Fries are obviously an incredibly popular side dish, but I’m telling you, putting the Mediterranean spin on them is a power move you won’t regret.

The EVOO, flaky sea salt, slightly-tangy crumbled feta, and herby oregano all sprinkled on top truly make these Greek Feta Fries chef’s kiss.

NGL, these fries taste, and look, way more gourmet than the effort it takes to make. It’s the easiest thing to whip up and I guarantee will be a winner in your house too. Let me know what you think after you give them a try!

INGREDIENTS YOU’LL NEED:

  • Yellow potatoes
  • Avocado oil
  • Crumbled feta
  • Extra virgin olive oil
  • Fresh oregano
  • Flaky sea salt (I like Maldon)

HOW TO MAKE MY GREEK FETA FRIES

Slice potatoes into strips.

Add avocado oil to a skillet so that it covers the entire base, and heat on medium-high.

Once the oil is hot, add potatoes to skillet and cook until golden brown, flip, and continue frying until potatoes are tender.

Once done, use tongs to remove fries from skillet and add to a bowl or serving plate. Then add crumbled feta, freshly chopped oregano, flaky sea salt and a drizzle of extra virgin olive oil. Enjoy!

WHAT TO SERVE WITH GREEK FETA FRIES

Promise I won’t judge if you just want to eat a plate of these fries and call it a day, but I highly recommend serving them with my Greek Burgers. I mean, is there a better combo than a burger and fries? A Mediterranean-inspired meal made in heaven (aka your kitchen), if you ask me.

RECIPE SUBSTITUTIONS & QUESTIONS

I prefer to use yellow potatoes to make my Greek Feta Fries. They have a yummy, buttery flavor and creamy texture, but are still able to achieve that perfect crispiness on the outside. You could also try russet or Idaho potatoes as well, which are denser and have less moisture compared to yellow potatoes, or Yukon Golds.

Option to use vegan feta instead of regular feta, if preferred. Although I definitely recommend using fresh oregano, dried oregano is also an option. I like to sprinkle a flaky sea salt like Maldon on top, but any salt will work.

WHY AREN’T MY HOMEMADE FRIES CRISPY?

To ensure your homemade fries have a crispier texture, it’s important that the oil they are cooked in is hot enough before adding the potatoes to the pan. Another common reason fries may be soggy is due to overcrowding and reducing the heat. If your pan isn’t big enough, simply make your fries in batches!

DO YOU HAVE TO SOAK POTATOES BEFORE FRYING?

It’s definitely not necessary to soak the potatoes/fries before cooking or pan-frying. But feel free to do so if you’d like (making sure to soak in cold water if so)! Soaking them removes the excess starch which may result in a crispier fry. This obviously adds more time to your prep, so don’t worry if you don’t have the time (or are just too hungry!).

I generally never use the soaking method as you can still achieve that crispy potato texture without soaking. Just make sure you’re pan-frying until golden brown on either side, cooking all the way through.
